TRINIDAD 7 POT (7 POD)
capsicum chinense
Scovilles: 1,000,000
Origin: Trinidad
This variety is from the Chaguanas area of Trinidad. It has built up an almost myth-like quality. In Caribbean regions, it is also known as 7 pot as one pod is said to provide enough heat to spice up 7 pots of stew. Pods are habanero like in their shape but have the characteristic ‘pimpling’ as found on another fearsome variety – the Naga Morich. Unusually, the proportion of Placental tissue is very high – an allusion to why this pepper is so outrageously hot. We now see this pepper in various colors – red, yellow, brown, white and burgundy. No doubt purple will be along soon, followed by Cappuccino, Dusty Pink…
Where can you find the Trinidad 7 Pot Pepper?
Spicieans… Like most Super Hots, this pepper has also proven to be quite elusive! I haven’t really been able to find these peppers anywhere online. As always, maybe growing these naughty little scorpions is your best bet or to search locally.
